A masking set in 1:48 scale for the model of the Soviet Lavochkin La-11 fighter. It saves the laborious cutting of masks for the glazing and secures sharp color transitions.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Lavochkin La-11 is a Soviet postwar single-engine fighter with a radial engine, developed on from the La-9 type. It came about as a long-range escort machine able to cover bomber formations over long routes. It is marked by a slim fuselage with a teardrop canopy and belongs among the last Soviet fighters with propeller power.
The set brings ready-made masks for a La-11 model in 1:48 scale. Both the extent of the set and the kit it is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions. Masks are cut to measure for a particular model, so it is worth verifying what they are meant for before you start painting. They need not fit another kit of the same type, because the shapes of canopies differ even between manufacturers.
The surface of the model has to be clean, dry and degreased. Lift the mask off its backing with tweezers, offer it up in place and press it with a blunt tool so that it seats all the way round, above all in the corners of the frames. Only then spray, and rather in several thin coats than in one heavy one, so that the paint does not bleed under the edge. Take the masks off as soon as the paint has set, pulling at a sharp angle toward yourself.
It will be appreciated by anyone who does not want to spend an evening cutting strips of masking tape and who wants the frames of the glazing to be the same width all over the model. Working with ready-made masks is faster and the result tends to be cleaner than with masking by hand. The kit, paints and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
