The set from Dead Design is intended for masking the canopy glazing when spraying. The Banded Canopy designation refers to a version of the canopy with prominent band reinforcements, that is, to the particular shape of framing the masks match. The parts are cut in advance, so there is no cutting of curves from tape and no guessing at the width of the frames. According to the name, one set covers both versions listed, the F-94A and the F-94B. It is not a kit and these are not decals.

The real subject

The Lockheed F-94 was an American two-seat jet interceptor of the early 1950s, derived from the two-seat trainer of the T-33 series. It carried an onboard radar and was intended for operations in darkness and bad weather, which shows on the canopy as well: the long canopy over two seats is a prominent area on a model and its frames are visible from every side. On the versions with band reinforcements the structure of the canopy stands out even more.

Tips for masking glazing

• Wash and degrease the glazing before masking so that the masks hold reliably.
• Always lay a mask on first and check that it seats into the engraving of the frame; only then press it down.
• Work the transitions over curves down slowly with a wooden stick so that no pocket of air is left under the edge.
• Spray the interior color first and then the exterior shade. The transition then shows through nowhere.
• Lift the masks shortly after the paint has dried, ideally with the tip of a knife at a shallow angle.
