A photo-etched set from the Czech maker Hauler for the model of the American M4 Sherman medium tank in 1:48 scale, cut for the Hobby Boss kit. It is not a model but a set of metal parts that will replace or complete the plastic originals.
An injection mold has a technological minimum thickness that it cannot get below. Everything that on the real machine is made of thin sheet, that is, brackets, clasps, grilles, straps and small fittings, comes out several times thicker in plastic than it should be. Photo-etch is etched from sheet a few tenths of a millimeter thick, so such items finally look like sheet and not like a casting. In 1:48 scale the difference is visible at once, because the model is small and the eye compares details close to one another.
Work on a light surface, or the small photo-etched parts get lost. Leave them on the fret as long as possible and cut them off only just before gluing. Run the bends according to the etched groove, which sets the side the part is bent to. Degreasing and a thin primer are compulsory on metal. Dose the super glue through a pin; the gel version gives more time to line the part up, while the thin version runs into a seam faster.
The set is an accessory for a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
