A vacuum-formed canopy is made by drawing thin clear film over a mold, so it has a markedly smaller wall thickness than a part molded from plastic. In 1:144 scale, where the whole aircraft is barely a few centimeters long, that difference tells a great deal: the frames look finer and you can really see inside through the canopy. The set from the manufacturer Brengun is intended for the kit of the Yak-11 aircraft in this scale. The number of pieces in the package is stated on the box.
The Yak-11 is a single-engine trainer of Soviet design, derived from a wartime fighter. It served for advanced pilot training and spread to a number of countries; characteristic are the long glazed canopy for a crew of two in tandem, the radial engine and the conventional tailwheel landing gear.
The procedure differs from plastic parts and is worth following. The part is not cut from the film but sanded free: trace the outline with a fine alcohol marker, lay the film on fine-grit abrasive paper placed on a flat board and sand the excess away in a circular motion right down to the parting line. Check as you go whether the edge is even all round — as soon as a hole appears you have sanded too far and have to start again, which is why a spare piece in the package earns its place. It has to be glued with a cement that dries perfectly clear, typically PVA canopy glue or white glass glue; do not use super glue — its fumes will fog the clear film and the canopy will go white. Before gluing, dip the canopy in a polish for clear parts, which evens out fine score marks. Masking can be done with narrow strips of tape or with liquid mask.
It is a detail accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package. Check that it matches your own kit.
