Self-adhesive templates for masking while spraying a model of the British Phantom FGR.2 in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer New Ware. This variant is graded as ADVANCED, that is the extended scope between the basic and the most comprehensive set. The product name states the kits whose parts the cut is made for.
The word in the designation says nothing about quality, only about how much the set masks. BASIC is the basic level, ADVANCED adds further areas and EXPERT goes furthest. ADVANCED is therefore a sensible compromise for a modeler who wants more than just the glazing but does not need to mask truly every detail.
The Phantom FGR.2 is the British designation of the multirole two-seat Phantom adapted for the Royal Air Force. It differed from the American versions above all in a powerplant of British design, which called for a reworked rear fuselage and larger intakes. In service it lasted from the late 1960s to the early 1990s and carried out attack, reconnaissance and fighter duties.
The Phantom has a markedly divided canopy with two separate parts and frames that are harder to paint with a brush, and this is exactly where a mask saves the most work and frustration. First give the clear parts a coat of clear gloss varnish, so that the edges of the frames are legible and the adhesive of the mask separates more easily. Spray the paint from the edge of the template inward, not across the edge from the side. Let the model stand before you remove the masks, but not for days, as overdried paint tears at the edge.
The package holds only the masking templates. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
