This decal sheet from the Hungarian firm SBS Model brings the markings of Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighters of the G-2 and G-4 versions that flew with the Royal Hungarian Air Force during the Second World War. The decals in 1:48 scale are a welcome alternative to the ubiquitous German schemes for this type.
The G-2 version opened the era of the Gustav series with the DB 605 engine; the G-4 differed from it above all in a new radio set and strengthened landing gear with larger wheels. Hungary, as an ally of Germany, received the Bf 109 G for its fighter units deployed on the Eastern Front, where Hungarian pilots achieved remarkable successes against the Soviet Air Force. The Hungarian machines combined German camouflage standards with their own national insignia and tactical numbers.
With camouflage schemes that have hard edges, apply the decals over polished gloss varnish and use a softener for a perfect fit into the panel lines. Align the tactical numbers according to the side views in the instructions; once dry, overcoat with satin varnish and bring out the engraving with a fine wash.
