A set of self-adhesive stencils for spraying multicolor camouflage onto a model of the Mi-24 attack helicopter in the VP version. The stencils define the shape of the camouflage fields on the fuselage, the stub wings and the tail boom. They are not masks for the cockpit glazing, which has to be dealt with separately.
Unlike a tank or a truck, a helicopter has almost no flat areas. The fuselage is rounded, it carries over into the stub wings at the sides and into the long tail boom, and the camouflage pattern has to line up smoothly across all these shapes. So never apply the stencil in one sweep across a whole part. Lay it on in sections, start at the place of greatest curvature and spread it out from there. Where the material starts to ripple, it is better to nick it with a scalpel at that place and let the edges overlap slightly than to stretch it by force.
With a multicolor scheme work from the lighter shade toward the darker one, so that heavy covering coats do not have to be sprayed. Always let the paint dry between the colors. While lifting the masks off, watch out for the small antennas, sensors, barrels and other little protrusions, of which this type has a whole series on the fuselage. Lead the mask away from them at an acute angle, and rather nick it at a protrusion in advance than pull it across. Seal the finished camouflage with a clear coat, and only then do the decals and the weathering come up.
The stencils are a modeling accessory. The kit, the paints and the clear coat are not included in the package.
