This item is a stand-alone decal set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale. Unlike sheets of technical lettering, it is aimed at the color schemes and national insignia of Mi-24V machines in the service of various operators around the world, as its name also suggests. The decals complete a model that has already been built and painted; the kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
The Mi-24V is a version of the Soviet attack helicopter that combines fire support with the ability to carry a small assault party. Characteristic of it are the armored tandem cockpit with two separate canopies, short stub wings with pylons for the armament and retractable tricycle landing gear. The machine was exported very widely and in various forms served, and still serves, with dozens of users, so in practice it appeared in an extraordinarily varied range of camouflage schemes and markings. That very variety is the reason why alternative decals are worth getting for a model.
The base has to be a smooth gloss clear coat, as otherwise air will be trapped under the film and the markings will silver. Cut the motifs out closely, dip them briefly in lukewarm water and let them stand until the film will slide off the backing on its own. On a helicopter there are a great many rounded surfaces, transitions and rivet lines, so count on a decal softener and on squeezing the water out with a soft brush or a cotton bud from the center outward. Lay large motifs down on a wet surface, so that they can still be moved. Once dry, go over the model with a flat or semi-gloss clear coat according to the character of the final finish.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
