Panavia Tornado spine + radar is a resin detail set in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Black Dog. It is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory for the fittings of the spine and the radar section.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a kit of an airplane but a resin detail accessory to a Panavia Tornado model in 1:48 scale that has already been bought. The set deals with two assemblies at once: the fittings of the spine of the fuselage under the service panels and the radar section. Both make sense on a model you want to display in a partly dismantled state, that is, with the covers swung open and the nose exposed. With the panels closed and the radar cover in place, nothing of the set will be visible.
The Panavia Tornado is a twin-engine combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, developed jointly by several European states and built in several versions differing in their task and in the fittings of the nose. The space under the spine panels and the nose section with the antenna are among the places that makers of injection-molded kits work out only in a simplified way, because they do not come into play on a model built in the standard manner. A resin casting, by contrast, can present these assemblies with sharp edges and a fine surface, so that they become the main theme of a display case. The set is therefore intended for the deliberate building of a maintenance scene, not for an ordinary build out of the box.
Wash the resin parts with lukewarm water and detergent, so that the paint holds on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, level the surfaces with a file, and sanding is best done wet with respiratory protection. It is glued exclusively with cyanoacrylate glue. Before gluing, always try the seating dry, because it is usually necessary to sand away part of the original plastic of the kit; work in small steps. It pays to paint in parts before the final assembly. Internal spaces usually call for a lighter base, over which a thinned dark wash is then laid, so that the edges and the routing of the wiring stand out. The radar section looks best when the metal parts are set apart with several shades and a restrained highlight is added. We recommend propping the open panels up so that they hold in an exact position.
The set is an accessory to a kit already bought and is supplied unpainted. The kit, cyanoacrylate glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
