The item is an accessory to a model, not the model itself. The resin set from the Czech manufacturer Black Dog is intended to show, on a model of the F-4B Phantom II in 1:48 scale, the engine section in a form a plastic kit does not offer. Sets like this are used mainly on models built with open covers or in diorama scenes with vehicles under maintenance.
The F-4B is the early naval version of the two-seat twin-engine Phantom II fighter. Characteristic of it is the combination of a swept wing with upturned outer panels, drooped horizontal tail surfaces and a bulky fuselage with side air intakes. The power came from a pair of turbojets with afterburners, mounted side by side in the rear of the fuselage. That is exactly why the engine section is a rewarding theme for accessory sets on this type, because with the engine drawn out a space is revealed that is otherwise completely hidden.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting blocks away with a saw or a fine knife, and do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with super glue. With engine sets it pays to paint and weather the parts before gluing them in, because once installed you cannot get at them. Leave the metallic shades until last so that they do not get dirty; a wash into the hollows works well for separating the individual parts of the engine.
The set is supplied unpainted and is intended for working a kit up. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package. The target kit is stated on the box of the set, so please check before buying that the set matches your model.
