A set of photo-etched metal parts for detailing the plastic model of the Soviet BZ-42 airfield tanker truck in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle - the set is cut for the Unimodels 508 kit and without it you cannot use it. With tanker trucks photo-etch pays off especially well: most of the look is made up of the external fittings, the grab handles, the steps, the hose holders and the flanges of the platforms, that is, exactly the shapes that are molded in plastic markedly thicker than the scale calls for.
The BZ-42 was a Soviet airfield refueling vehicle of the Second World War period. It carried a tank with a pump and dispensing equipment and served to replenish the fuel of combat aircraft directly on field airfields, often in difficult conditions and without paved surfaces. Vehicles of this type formed an unobtrusive but indispensable part of the back area of the Soviet Air Force, and in dioramas they are among the rewarding subjects precisely because they explain how an airfield worked between takeoffs.
Before gluing, lay the set out by subassemblies: what belongs on the chassis, what on the cab and what on the tank. The individual units are better detailed separately and only then joined. Separate the parts with a scalpel, run the bends along the line, and bend longer flanges in a bender in one go. Glue with super glue in small amounts. A tanker truck is rewarding to weather: under the dispensing equipment and around the filler cap it is worth suggesting traces of fuel with a dark glossy effect, and dusting the rest of the body instead. Do not forget that metal holds paint only on a primer.
This is an accessory set, not a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
