The Russian R-40T AA-6 Acrid missile in 1:48 scale from Plusmodel — a resin casting of the infrared-guided version of the giant Soviet air-to-air missile for MiG-25 interceptors.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin miniature of the Soviet R-40T guided missile (NATO code AA-6 Acrid) in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Plusmodel. An accessory of aircraft armament, not a model of an aircraft, intended above all for models of the MiG-25 interceptor, on whose massive stores stations this missile looks suitably imposing.
The R-40 was developed in the 1960s as the main weapon of the MiG-25 interceptor against fast high-altitude targets, and its dimensions rank it among the very largest air-to-air missiles. The R-40T version carried an infrared seeker head: after launch it homed on the heat emission of the target itself and needed no further support from the radar on board. In practice the aircraft carried mixed loads, the radar R-40R and the heat-seeking R-40T at the same time, so that an attack with either method of homing was possible. You can recognize the infrared version by its rounded head with a sensor in place of the pointed radome.
Wash the casting in warm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off and sand them with protection for your airways; glue with cyanoacrylate. Check the straightness of the long body before varnish. A drop of gloss black on the face of the seeker head will faithfully imitate the optical sensor; the rest of the body tends to be light gray or white with technical stencil markings.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
