The masking set Soviet Red-White Outlined Red Stars — mid variant, 1:48 from Armycast makes it possible to spray red stars with a double red and white edging straight into the finish of a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Self-adhesive Armycast masks for 1:48 scale, intended for spraying a Soviet red star with a double red and white outline in the mid variant. The set is an accessory for a kit, not a kit. The insignia is applied in paint layer by layer, so when it is finished nothing is left on the surface but paintwork.
A double edging, that is, a white band completed by a further thin outer red line, is among the more complex patterns of Soviet aircraft marking. The mid variant differs from the early and late ones in the proportions of the insignia and the width of the edgings; check the exact dimensions by comparing the masks with the documentation for the machine you are building.
The main reason to reach for a mask rather than a decal is the behavior of the surface. A decal lies on the model as a thin carrier film and, on matte paint, its edge often shows as a lighter glossy outline, so-called silvering. A sprayed insignia has no such rim, it stands polishing, abrasive weathering and the chipped paint technique, and when wear is picked out it rubs through just like the surrounding finish, so the result looks natural. If you combine a mask with the decals from the box, unify the whole model with a final varnish — otherwise the difference between the two kinds of marking will show.
This is an accessory for a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
