A resin set aimed at the wing armament of the Supermarine Spitfire fighter in the Mk.Vb version in 1:48 scale. It is an accessory for a kit, not a model of the aircraft; in the package there are the castings themselves, which replace the simplified plastic parts. The target kit is Airfix.
The Mk.Vb is legible for a modeler precisely by its wing: it combines cannon and machine gun armament, so on the leading edge a different arrangement of ports is visible and with it the characteristic cannon fairings, which stand out above and below the profile of the wing. It is exactly these fairings and the precise position of the ports that tell the Mk.Vb from other versions of the Spitfire and that tend to come out worst in injected plastic.
The set contains parts of small dimensions, so have a flat tray and a light surface ready on the bench. Cut the castings off the casting blocks with a sharp scalpel or a saw and always away from yourself; resin splits and a knife slides off it easily. Sand the remains of the blocks down wet, as wetted abrasive paper catches the dust, which must not be inhaled. Before gluing, wash the parts in water with detergent, otherwise the paint will not hold on residues of the release agent. Hold the barrel ports and fairings with tweezers rather than with your fingers and try them dry until they sit exactly; only then apply a drop of cyanoacrylate glue. While painting, small parts are best held stuck with double-sided tape to a strip of card; you paint them to one side and fit them to the wing only when finished.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, check that the set will fit your kit.
