This item is a painted Eduard photo-etched set of the Zoom range. It is not a model, it is not a masking set and it is not a combined accessory package either - it is a single photo-etched fret with parts printed in color that bring out the cockpit of a plastic Su-27S model in 1:48 scale. Zoom aims at what is really visible once the model is closed up: the instrument panel, the side consoles and the seat harness. The full interior set from the same workshop is more extensive and adds unpainted structural etched parts as well.
The Su-27S is the single-seat production fighter version of the Soviet twin-engine heavy fighter Su-27, which entered service in the mid-1980s. The design is integral - the fuselage contributes to lift, the engines are in separate nacelles and the large wing merges into the fuselage through smooth leading-edge root extensions. The cockpit is fitted with an ejection seat and analog instruments with round dials, which suit painted photo-etched panels better than the later display panels.
The procedure is simple, but it does not take haste. First sand the molded relief of the instruments on the plastic part flat and degrease the area with alcohol. Apply cyanoacrylate glue in a microscopic amount - best with a toothpick from a drop on a piece of foil; a dropped bead of glue will dull the printing beyond recovery. Offer the side panels up dry, check that they line up with the plastic and only then fix them. The painted parts are not given a coat of opaque paint; only a final flat coat evens the gloss of the whole cockpit out.
The set is an accessory for a plastic model; it is not a kit in its own right. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
