Three Spitfires of Polish squadrons from the summer of 1943 to the spring of 1945, each from a different theater. The sheet offers code letters, serial numbers and the matching national insignia for models in 1:48.
Responsibility details are not available.
Polish airmen made up whole squadrons in the Royal Air Force and in the course of two years their Spitfires moved from bases in southern England through a Belgium being liberated all the way to the Italian front. Each of those theaters brought with it a different coloring of the aircraft, different wear and a different mood; the sheet captures that with a trio of machines separated by just under two years.
The inner variety of the selection is interesting. The first machine belongs to a classic fighter squadron in the islands, the second catches a unit already on the continent, where it moved behind the advancing front, and the third aircraft served with a unit that over Italy carried out reconnaissance duties as well. A model built according to any one of them therefore fits an entirely different display case.
The code letters are large on these machines and run across the rounded side of the fuselage as well as across the trailing edges, so it is advisable to lay the print on a damp base and to shape it with a brush in two steps. On the fin and the underside of the wing there is then usually room for the serial number as well, which the sheet carries separately. In the package are the decals only, not the kit or clear coats.
Collectors putting together a series by theater will appreciate that all three markings can be built from one envelope without buying further sheets.
