For so small a car the interior of the Mini is surprisingly rich in small things, and the manufacturer therefore divided it into two separately sold parts. This one carries the letter B and continues where its counterpart leaves off; anyone who wants the cabin finished from the floor to the roof will reach for both.
The cars of the range from 1996 to 2000 differ from older Minis precisely inside. An airbag was added in the steering wheel, wider seats were fitted and the whole panel moved somewhat higher. Seen from outside the car looks almost the same as in 1959; seen from the driver's seat it is a different car.
Work with pieces this small does not do without a work surface with a light-colored top; on a dark board anything smaller than a fingernail is lost. It pays to cut the parts off only just before fitting them and to try them dry straight away, because a bent piece is hard to straighten again.
The body, the glazing and paints are not enclosed with it: a finished model waiting to be completed is assumed. The result is worth letting people see: it is enough to open a door or to stand the car so that light falls into the cabin.
Before you set to work, go through period photographs of the real car. Rover offered the Mini in a number of special editions at the time, and many had their own upholstery and their own shade of instrument panel, so the choice of colors decides the credibility as much as the parts themselves. Period brochures also show the layout of the controls, which changed slightly once more during the last five years of production.
