A Kits-World decal sheet in 1:48 scale for models of the Supermarine Spitfire fighter in versions Mk.VIII and Mk.IXc. A standalone accessory for a model; the kit is not part of the package.
Responsibility details are not available.
A decal sheet from the manufacturer Kits-World intended for models of the Supermarine Spitfire fighter in versions Mk.VIII and Mk.IXc in 1:48 scale. The sheet covers the markings of the machines shown on the packaging; the particular aircraft, the units and the number of schemes are found on the packaging and in the enclosed instructions. Before buying, therefore, compare the content with the version of Spitfire you are building, because the two versions named differ in airframe details.
The Spitfire Mk.IX came about as a response to the need to get a two-stage supercharged Rolls-Royce Merlin 60 series engine into a proven airframe. Its recognition features are the longer nose, the four-blade propeller and the pair of radiators under both wings instead of the asymmetric arrangement of the earlier versions. The letter c refers to the universal wing, which allowed various combinations of armament. The Mk.VIII was a version developed in parallel with a fixed tail wheel and a strengthened structure, intended for deployment outside the home area; compared with the Mk.IX it differs for example in the shape of the rudder and the arrangement of the exhausts.
The Spitfire has a smooth but markedly shaped surface: the wing passes into the fuselage in a curve and there is a row of recessed panels on the sides of the fuselage. A decal applied in the ordinary way will not settle across such a transition and will make a bubble. Decal softener helps: once the decal is seated, blot off the water, let the film set for a while and only then go over it with a thin layer of decal softener. The film softens, draws itself onto the shape by itself and once dry looks as though it had been sprayed on. The essential rule: once decal softener has been applied, do not touch the decal again, otherwise it will tear.
This is a standalone decal sheet. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
