The American air deployment in Southeast Asia in the early sixties ran under the designation Farm Gate. Operations were largely carried by mechanics and technicians on the airfield area who maintained the machines, replenished them and prepared them for the next takeoff. The set carries this view over to a model.
Figures of ground personnel are what gives a scene in a diorama its action. An aircraft model just stands there, but only a figure absorbed in work beside the machine tells the viewer what is going on at that moment on the area. At the same time it gives a sense of scale: at 1:48 an adult figure measures about three and a half centimeters, so the size of the machine is evident at first glance.
Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder until the surface is smooth. Wash and degrease before painting. Work from the base coat to the details and let the paint dry thoroughly between coats. Muted shades with a thin wash run into the folds suit working clothing, and the boots and trouser legs will take a dusting. Paint the faces last; on small figures the shape of the shadow matters more than the number of shades.
The set is for modelers who are building a scene at a field airfield or who want to add a crew to a display model. The material is not made of polystyrene and is joined with cyanoacrylate glue; try the placement dry before gluing.
