HGW U.S. National Insignia 1943 to 1944, 1:48 — wet transfers

This item contains markings, specifically American national insignia in the form of wet transfers for models in 1:48 scale. They differ from ordinary decals in that, after application and removal of the carrier film, only the color itself is left on the model. With large-area insignia of the kind carried by wings and fuselages that is an essential difference — with a classic decal the transparent film around the motif tends to be visible, especially under sharp light or on a matte finish. The form of the American national marking went through changes in the period named; the extent of a particular set is given on the card supplied with the product.

Application

• Polish the area beforehand and coat it with gloss clear; a large insignia needs a perfectly smooth surface over its whole area.
• Follow the manufacturer's instructions: soak the transfer, position it and let it dry properly, and only then lift the carrier film off.
• With large elements work in sections and squeeze the air out from the center toward the edges with a soft cloth or a cotton bud.
• If the model has riveting or pronounced panel lines, careful pressing after application helps the motif follow the relief.
• Finally seal the surface with clear at the degree of gloss you want; a matte clear coat strengthens the impression of sprayed markings further.
