A complete set of stencils for both sides of the cockpit glazing of the A-6 in 1:48 scale. The shapes follow the parts of the Kinetic kit, to which the name of the item refers.
An open canopy is one of the first things anyone notices on a displayed model. As soon as they look into the cockpit, they will also see the inner side of the frames, and a transparent strip there is more distracting than imperfect camouflage on the fuselage. Grumman went for a robust structure on this machine and heavy framing, which was meant to survive hard landings on a deck. The areas to be covered are therefore not negligible and care given to the reverse really shows on the finished piece.
Peel the stencils away with tweezers at a shallow angle, never straight up. In a cold room they come off less easily and may pull the finish with them, so leave the part somewhere warm for a while. Wipe residue at the edge off with a wooden toothpick. Metal and a steel edge have no place on clear plastic; one scratch and the glazing is marked for good. If an edge holds more firmly than it should, it helps to hold the part over warm air for a moment and repeat the pull. Never reach for a solvent, though; it would get under the finish and eat away exactly the edge you were trying to keep sharp.
