1:48 Warsaw's Uprising - Insurgents ( two figurines )

Warsaw Uprising, insurgents, two figures, 1:48 scale, Toro Model

A set of two stand-alone resin figures in 1:48 scale from the Polish maker Toro Model. It is not a kit of a piece of equipment but an addition meant to bring a diorama or a display case of models in the same scale to life. The castings are supplied unassembled and unpainted; paints, glue and a base are not included in the box.

The real subject

The subject is insurgents of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Their appearance typically mixes civilian clothing with military items: trousers and jackets of ordinary cut completed by military gear and an armband for recognition. It is precisely this lack of uniformity that is interesting for the modeler, as each figure can have a different palette and the scene then looks convincingly urban. The set suits dioramas with ruins, barricades and city buildings.

Building and painting tips

Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and sand the surfaces carefully; in 1:48 scale there is little material, so work with a light touch and protect your airways. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). After a thin primer, paint with a fine brush with a sharp point, because in this scale detail is suggested rather than painted. Create the contrast with different shades of civilian clothing, and a thin wash will handle the shading. Suggest dust and plaster grit with a light pigment on the boots and the hems.
