About product

Eduard photo-etched steel seat belts 1:48 Zlin Z-126 and Z-226

Seat belts etched from steel, intended for the cockpit of models of the Zlin Z-126 and Z-226 trainers in 1:48 scale. Steel sheet differs from an ordinary brass etching in that it stays in the position you shaped it into once bent. That makes it possible to leave a belt draped naturally over the edge of the seat instead of standing taut like a strip of tin. On two-seat trainers the cockpit detail carries a lot of weight, because the glazing tends to be extensive and the interior shows from both sides. The manufacturer is the Czech company Eduard.

The real subject

The Zlin Z-126 and Z-226 belong to the family of Czech training and aerobatic aircraft that followed on from the postwar Trener series. They were low-wing monoplanes with fixed landing gear and a piston engine, on which the powerplant, the shape of the canopy and the equipment changed step by step. The Z-226 was offered in several versions, a single-seat aerobatic one among them. The aircraft served both for basic training and for competition aerobatics, and in both roles they earned a good name thanks to their rugged construction. They appeared in service with flying clubs and in military training alike, and their color schemes are therefore very varied.

Usage tips

Before you cut the belts off, go through the drawing and work out which part belongs where. Make the bends around the edge of a pair of tweezers, not with a fingernail. Paint the seats and let them dry thoroughly before you fit the belts. Apply cyanoacrylate glue in the smallest possible amount, because surplus leaves a shiny mark on matte paint. With a two-seat cockpit, remember that the two seats must look consistent but not identical: a slight difference in the shape of the sag looks more natural. Finally, highlight the cockpit gently so that the belts do not merge into the background.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Zlin Z-126 and Z-226 models in 1:48 scale
  • Modelers who want a detailed cockpit under large glazing
  • Those looking for a quick improvement to the interior without a major change to the kit
  • Anyone interested in Czech aviation

This is not an aircraft kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The name gives both types. Check the target kit against the packaging of the set and compare it with the box you are building.

Bend them around a blunt edge, for instance the jaw of a pair of tweezers, so that a smooth curve forms. A sharp crease looks unnatural.

A small drop of cyanoacrylate glue. Plastic cement has no effect on metal.

This is a set of photo-etched seat belts, not a complete interior. The exact contents of the package are given on the packaging.
