The sheet from the manufacturer ETA diorama is a printed paper accessory for building dioramas and vignettes in the large 1:6 scale. It serves to liven up the vertical surfaces of a scene — walls, wooden partitions, posts, notice boards or interior walls. The printed sheets are cut out and glued straight onto a surface, so they turn a flat wall into a setting with content. The motifs are period depictions used solely so that a scene from a given period looks believable.
Cut the individual sheets out with a sharp scalpel along a rule. For the effect of a poster that has hung on a wall for some time, tear a corner or an edge by hand. It is glued with thin PVA glue applied thinly over the whole reverse; the glue also softens the paper, so that it follows the unevenness of render, the joints of bricks or the texture of wood. Press it down with a soft brush from the center toward the edges, so that no air bubbles remain.
Fresh printing is too saturated and smooth for a scene. Mute it with a very thinned filter in the shade of the surrounding wall, bring out the edges and the folds with a muted wash and, in the places near the ground, add pigment as dust or streaks from rain. At the end matte clear coat brings the sheen in line with the surroundings and protects the paper. Work in thin layers; paper takes less moisture than plastic or plaster.
