A printed paper accessory for a diorama in 1:6 scale from ETA diorama. It is not a kit or a decal: it is a printed sheet with the leaves of the tropical plant Piper peltatum, intended for scenes with collector's figures in a large scale. A scale of 1:6 means a figure roughly thirty centimeters tall, so even a single leaf is a prominent object in the hand.
In a large scale a scene forgives far less. The viewer stands closer, sees the texture of the paper and every inaccurate cut, and a flat leaf immediately gives away that it is a print. So reckon with more careful cutting and above all with more pronounced shaping: a large leaf has to be curved along the central vein, with the edges slightly rolled and with an asymmetrical shape. It works well to dampen a leaf lightly from the back once cut, to shape it over a rounded object and to let it dry in the curve you want.
A large paper leaf will droop under its own weight, which on a tropical plant looks natural but has to stay under control. So glue a thin wire along the center as a vein — you get support and the chance to reshape the leaf at any time later. Glue with PVA or matte glue, and avoid super glue on a print. Spray the finished plant with matte clear coat in two thin coats; on large areas apply the clear coat from a greater distance, so that the paper does not get soaked and buckle.
The accessory is supplied as a printed sheet. Glue, wire, paints and clear coat are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
