This detail accessory from Aoshima serves to render the decks of models of the Japanese battleships Fuso and Yamashiro in 1:700 scale realistically. It is not a ship kit but a pre-shaped and pre-dyed self-adhesive deck sheet that imitates the wooden plank covering of the deck, including its shade and its texture.
The sheet evens out the color and the texture of the wooden deck and removes the laborious hand painting of the individual planks. Thanks to the pre-shaping it follows the outline of the deck, so application is quick and the result looks scale-faithful. It lifts the overall impression of the finished battleship model considerably.
Degrease the deck of the model first and remove the dust. Lay the sheet down gradually, pressing from the center out to the edges and squeezing the air bubbles out. Trim the edges and the cut-outs around the superstructure and the turrets with a sharp knife. The transitions can be evened out with a fine wash or a flat varnish.
This is an accessory for a model, not a ship kit. The base model is not included in the package.
