This set from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi holds a pair of plastic kits of the aircraft carriers Shokaku and Zuikaku in 1:700 scale. Both ships made up the 5th carrier division of the Imperial Japanese Navy, so in a single box you can build the complete famous pair.
Shokaku and Zuikaku were sister aircraft carriers completed in 1941 and were among the most modern vessels of their kind at the start of the war in the Pacific. They took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor, in the Battle of the Coral Sea and in further engagements. Shokaku was sunk in June 1944 in the Battle of the Philippine Sea, Zuikaku in October 1944 off Cape Engaño.
In 1:700 scale work with a sharp knife, tweezers and a thin cement applied with a small brush. Spray the hulls naval gray, set the flight decks apart with a wooden or darker shade and bring out the engraved lines with a panel wash. Bond the small fittings only after the main assemblies are painted; the finished models stand out beautifully side by side on a shared base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
