An injection-molded plastic kit of a guided missile destroyer of the PLA Navy in 1:700 scale from Trumpeter. The Type 052D is among the most frequently built modern Chinese ships, and 1:700 scale makes it a model that slots easily into a collection of present-day surface vessels.
The Type 052D is a class of guided missile destroyers of the PLA Navy, given in Western literature as the Luyang III class. These are multi-purpose vessels with flat-faced radar arrays on the superstructure and with the armament housed in vertical launch cells, which allow various types of guided missiles to be carried. Unlike the older types, this class was built in greater numbers and forms the backbone of the modern surface forces.
In 1:700 scale it pays to paint the superstructure separately from the hull and to glue them on at the end. Leave small parts such as masts, radars and boats on the sprue as long as possible and clean them up with a sharp knife. Apply the gray shade with an airbrush in thin layers so that the engraved deck detail is preserved. The model is lifted considerably by added photo-etched railings, ladders and grilles. Deck markings and lines are finished after a gloss varnish with decals and a fine panel wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
