An injection-molded plastic kit of the American aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-5) in 1:700 scale from Tamiya, from the Waterline Series. The model has the hull at waterline level, an open flight deck, the island and anti-aircraft armament. A name plate is enclosed for display.
USS Yorktown was the lead unit of the American class of aircraft carriers of the same name and was among the most important carriers of the beginning of the war in the Pacific. She took part in the Battle of the Coral Sea and played a key role in the Battle of Midway in June 1942, where she was lost after hits from bombs and torpedoes and a subsequent submarine attack. She carried a mixed air group of fighters, dive bombers and torpedo bombers.
Join the hull to the deck carefully and distinguish the wooden walking deck from the steel surfaces. Lay down the basic shades with an airbrush, and a fine wash will pick out the planked deck and the details. The railings and radars can be refined with a photo-etched set (not included in the package). The model can be displayed on a stand or in a diorama.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
