A plastic kit model of the American aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CV-8) in 1:700 scale from Tamiya, from the Waterline series. The model is made as a waterline kit with the hull above the waterline and it captures the flight deck, the island and the superstructures of the carrier.
The USS Hornet was a Yorktown class aircraft carrier and one of the key American ships of the beginning of the war in the Pacific. In April 1942 the bomber raid on Tokyo (the Doolittle Raid) took off from her deck, and the ship played an essential part in the Battle of Midway. She was sunk in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands in October 1942.
Seat the waterline hull on a flat base to keep the waterline accurate. Glue the fine parts of the island, the guns and the masts with a thin plastic cement. Naval grays and period camouflage schemes (Measure) suit American carriers; bring the flight deck and the panel lines to life with a fine wash effect, and the railings can be added from an aftermarket photo-etched set.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
