Instant Weathering, heavy scratches, rust and grime, set 1 (USCHI van der Rosten)

A sheet of decals from the Instant Weathering system, not a kit. Set 1 brings motifs of heavy wear: deep scratches, leaking rust streaks and deposits of grime. They go straight onto the model and create the effect of a weathered, used and neglected surface at once, with none of the labor of painting by hand. The motifs are printed on a clear carrier film and the sheet is laid out as a multi-scale one, so it covers the span from 1:72 to 1:35. The maker is the German brand USCHI van der Rosten, the author of the Instant Weathering technique.

Use

• Apply them to a smooth, varnished surface, so that the decal takes and merges in.
• Apply the motif wet and bed it in with a decal softener, above all on contoured parts.
• Place the rust streaks logically below rivets, seams and edges, where water would really run down.
• Run the scratches in the places of everyday wear: edges, handles, walking surfaces.
• Finish with a matte varnish and even the effect out, if need be, with a light dust pigment.
