Responsibility details are not available.
A model of the British light gun known as the Smith Gun in 1:72. The full designation of the weapon reads Ordnance, Smooth Bore, 3 inch Gun, that is a smooth-bore gun of 3 inch caliber, roughly 76 mm. It is a small item that will add to a display case or a diorama a piece that most collections do not have alongside the more common equipment.
The weapon came about in Britain at a time of acute shortage of guns and was aimed above all at the Home Guard units. The design was therefore deliberately simple and cheap and its range remained short. The most unusual thing about it was the way it was used: in action the carriage was tipped onto its side, one wheel serving as a turntable and the other remaining above the barrel. That is exactly what makes the Smith Gun different at a glance from the conventional guns of its day.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Cut the parts off with a sharp knife and sand the cuts back; on a model this small, every remnant of material shows. Follow the instructions when assembling and use the glue sparingly so that it does not run into the moving points. Choose the colors according to the instructions and period references; a small gun calls for subtle shading rather than bold edge highlighting.
The model will be appreciated by collectors of British equipment of the Second World War and by builders of dioramas in 1:72 who need an unusual weapon for an infantry scene.
Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
