1:48 Supermarine Spitfire F.Mk.XVIII is a set of self-adhesive masking templates from Art Scale, cut in advance for the Airfix kit in 1:48 scale and intended for masking both sides of the glazing.

This is a set of masks, not a kit or a photo-etched set. The self-adhesive film is cut in advance to the shape of the cockpit frames of the Airfix kit and of the other areas that have to be covered while spraying. The template is peeled off, stuck onto the clear part, sprayed over along with the whole airframe and lifted off once the paint has dried. The result is a sharp frame edge without run-under paint and without the knife scratches that most often arise when tape is trimmed by hand.
The double-sided version. According to the name, the set allows for masking both sides of the glazing. The inner side is masked before the clear part is seated in the fuselage, so that the frames do not look like bare transparent plastic from inside.
The Spitfire F.Mk.XVIII was among the late versions with a Griffon engine. Compared with the earlier machines it had a strengthened airframe and landing gear structure and a modified fuel system, which made it a tougher aircraft suitable for service in demanding conditions as well. It entered squadron service only at the very end of the Second World War and after it, and was used above all in overseas regions. The cockpit of the late Spitfires has more frames, so masking templates pay off all the more.
Wash the glazing, degrease it and let it dry. Carry the templates with tweezers, press the edges down with a toothpick and spray in thin coats so that paint does not run under. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried and with a pull along the surface. With the inner masks, count on the interior color having to be sprayed before the cockpit is closed up, and on the clear part then being set in with a glue that does not fog transparent plastic.
The set contains masking templates only, not the aircraft model, paints or glue, unless stated otherwise.
