A plastic kit of a Soviet armored train in 1:72 scale from UM. The name refers to a particular formation, train No. 1 of the 48th Armored Division, which carried the period name Death to the German invaders. This is not a single car but the train as a whole, and the extent of the package matches that. The model follows on from a wider series of armored locomotives, flatcars and armored cars from the same manufacturer in the same scale.
In the Second World War, armored trains were rail formations made up of an armored locomotive and several armored cars that carried turrets with guns, antiaircraft armament and machine guns. Their deployment was tied to the track: they moved quickly over long distances, but depended entirely on an intact line. The formation was usually completed by covered flatcars and escort cars. Individual trains differed in the number and the arrangement of the cars, because they were built in different plants and were modified as they went.
Build the train car by car and finish each one separately, including the running gear and the interior, which becomes inaccessible once the body is closed up. Paint the wheelsets, the frame and the couplings beforehand. Unify the whole formation with a single base shade and only then bring in the differences between the cars, so that the result does not look like one casting. For the weathering use a wash in the recesses, dust pigments on the running gear and fine chipping on the edges of the flatcars. A longer stretch of track with a ballast bed suits the display.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, track and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
