The Be-8 was a postwar Soviet amphibian with a boat-shaped hull, a high-mounted wing and a radial piston engine. It never entered series production and the small number of machines built served mainly for trials. It was on the Be-8 that submerged lifting surfaces were tested, meant to raise the hull above the water during the take-off run, shorten that run and reduce the loads on the structure in waves. It is therefore an interesting technical side branch rather than a combat machine.
The lifting surfaces and their struts under the hull are the most delicate part of the build. Dry-fit them, check the alignment and the symmetry against the hull axis, and only then glue them; a simple jig or a template cut from card stock helps while the joint cures. Fill and sand the long hull seams once they are dry. Mask the glazing before spraying. For the underwater parts a darker shade with a hint of wear and water scale works well; give the whole model a gloss coat before the decals and unify it with a matte coat at the end.
