About product

Billboards and posters 1:72 (ETA diorama)

A printed sheet intended for dioramas in the small 1:72 scale. It holds billboard and poster motifs for facades, pasting surfaces and free-standing advertising structures. It is a paper accessory for a scene, not a kit and not a decal lifted off a film. In a small scale a detail like this carries great weight: flat building walls are the most noticeable weak point there and pasted-up posters will fill them faster than anything else.

A small scale puts the emphasis on trimming

In 1:72 a poster on a wall measures only a few millimeters, so the sharpness of the blade and the accuracy of the cut are what count. Use a new blade, a steel rule and a mat on which the knife will not slip. Cut in several light strokes rather than one heavy one – the paper then does not fray. The edge no longer needs beveling; it is enough to tone it with a thin brush. Work the motifs one at a time and carry them with tweezers; once a small cutout is glued down it can no longer be moved without damage.

Gluing and a sensitive patina

Apply the glue in a thin layer to the undercoat. A matte PVA glue that leaves no glossy edge is ideal. Do the patinating very carefully in a small scale – a heavy wash would swamp a small motif completely. A light knocking back of the color with a thinned gray shade and a hint of pigment at the foot of the wall are enough. Matte clear coat at the end unifies the sheen with the surroundings. Several posters glued close together with a small offset look more believable than one on its own.

Who the sheet is for

  • Builders of airfield and urban dioramas in 1:72 scale
  • Modelers whose scene is missing a small street detail
  • Those who build facades and want to liven them up with pasted-up posters
  • Patient modelers – fine trimming calls for tweezers and a sharp blade

A printed paper accessory for a diorama, not a model. Glue, paints and clear coat are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not, it just calls for accuracy. Cut with a new blade in several light strokes and carry the cutouts with tweezers, because once glued down you will not move them.

Only very lightly. A heavy wash would swamp small printing. It is enough to knock the color back with a thinned gray shade and to add a hint of pigment at ground level.

What counts is the current form of the packaging from the manufacturer. Once unpacked, lay the small motifs out according to the actual printing and only then cut.

Yes. Back the motif with a smooth board and fit it onto a frame of thin profiles. Paper glued straight onto a frame would sag between the profiles.
