The subject is the supersonic trainer and light combat aircraft T-2 in the form of the Blue Impulse aerobatic team of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The T-2 is a twin-engine supersonic aircraft of Japanese design that served from the 1970s as an advanced trainer and, in a derived form, as a light combat aircraft as well. It has a tandem cabin for two crew, a slender fuselage and high-mounted swept wings. Besides its training role the T-2 made its name above all as the machine of the Blue Impulse display team, which flew display routines on it in the period between the use of older and newer types. It is precisely the team's bold white and blue colors that are the main reason this release appeals to modelers.
Models in 1:72 call for careful handling of the parting lines, because every imperfect joint shows at once on a gloss finish. Finish the cockpit and mask the glazing before spraying the fuselage. Build the display scheme from the bottom up: first the white as the lighter color, and once it has cured perfectly mask it and add the blue areas. Keep the transitions crisp, because on aerobatic finishes the cleanliness of the edges is essential. Before applying the decals, coat the surface with gloss varnish, use a softener and finally even the gloss out to match the pattern. Choose the weathering very sparingly, as display machines tend to be kept in immaculate condition.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
