A self-adhesive masking set from SX-Art for the model of the four-engine Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport airplane in 1:72 scale. It is neither a kit nor resin parts but a sheet of pre-cut masks that are stuck onto finished surfaces before spraying. On a transport airplane of this size masking is a long job, and a pre-cut sheet shortens it to a fraction of the time.
The flight deck of the Hercules is divided into a larger number of flat panes, to which are added the rectangular windows above the crew's heads and the small windows along the fuselage. Besides the glazing, two further features are typical of this machine. The first is the flat anti-glare panel that runs forward from the windshield across the whole upper nose and whose border is clearly visible on a model. The second is the wheels of the sturdy landing gear, where the dark tire should end sharply at the rim of the disc. The contents of the sheet are not stated here, so check before you buy which of these items the set covers.
Wash and degrease the glazing first, as fingerprints under a mask will show. Lift the mask off with tweezers, lay it down dry and press it with a soft tool so that the edge seats along its whole length. On large flat panes the work is easy; just take care to seat the first mask precisely, because the others line up on it. Spray the paint in thin coats; on the anti-glare panel it proves its worth to spray a thin coat of the base shade over the edge of the mask first, which seals the edge so that the dark shade then cannot run anywhere.
