This plastic kit from the Ukrainian manufacturer UM (Unimodels) presents the assault gun designated D-15. It is a marginal and little documented subject from the period of the Second World War, exactly the type of model that collectors reach for when they already have the usual types in the display case and are looking for a machine nobody else will have.
Assault guns came about as fire support for the infantry: a gun mounted in a fixed superstructure instead of a rotating turret meant a lower silhouette, simpler production and the possibility of carrying a more powerful weapon on an existing chassis. The real subject designated D-15 is among those designs about which you will not read much in the ordinary literature, which makes it all the more interesting a challenge for modelers of a research bent who like to dig into the background of their models.
Start with the chassis and the tracks, which ask for the most patience, and only then close the superstructure up. Glue the small parts with a thin cement for plastic and wipe the surplus away before it dries. A single-color camouflage is given life by a filter, a wash in the recesses of the superstructure and fine dusting of the lower hull with pigments; in 1:72 scale less is more.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
