About product

1:72 Dacian Cavalry, Strelets-R figures

A set of mounted figures of soft plastic in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Strelets-R, devoted to Dacian cavalry. This is an addition to dioramas and collections from antiquity, not a kit of hardware. The figures are supplied in the color of the plastic, without paint and without glue.

The real subject

The Dacians inhabited the area north of the lower Danube and at the turn of the 1st and 2nd centuries came into a long conflict with Rome. Their army rested mainly on infantry, but the cavalry played a role in reconnaissance and in rapid raids. The characteristic weapon of the region was a curved blade with the edge on the inner side, and among the warriors oval shields and chain mail acquired as booty appeared as well. The appearance was, as with other tribal societies, very far from uniform.

Building and painting tips

With soft plastic the cleanliness of the preparation decides the result more than with hard polystyrene. The parting lines often run across the body of the horse and across the rider's back and, if removed superficially, are visible under the paint. Draw a sharp scalpel in a smooth stroke along the line, not across it, and then go over the surface with fine abrasive paper or a small file, ideally wet, so that the material does not start to fray. Cut the remains of the sprue gates under the horse's belly and on the hooves off before you glue the figure, as afterward you will not reach there. Once cleaned, wash the figures with lukewarm water and detergent and let them dry. Only then comes the flexible primer and the paint, as otherwise it does not hold on soft plastic. It is glued solely with cyanoacrylate.

Who the set is for

  • For builders of dioramas from antiquity in 1:72 scale
  • For modelers who build scenes from the Roman-Dacian wars
  • For collectors of historical figures
  • For players of war games in a small scale

The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The number of riders and horses is stated on the box of the set.

With a sharp scalpel in a smooth stroke along the line and sanded down wet with fine paper. Scraping leaves grooves visible even under paint.

Residues of the release agent from the mold stay on the surface. Lukewarm water with detergent removes them and the primer then holds substantially better.

Yes. Once painted and clear coated with matte clear they stand up well even to handling, and soft plastic moreover does not break easily.
