A decal sheet, that is an accessory for building a model. According to the name it contains the paintings on the noses of the machines together with technical inscriptions. This is the fourth part of the multi-part range of sheets the manufacturer offers separately for this type. The contents of the sheet, the number of schemes and the names of the machines are given on the packaging.

Use

• Before you soak a decal, cut it out of the sheet and look over the edge of the film. Trim the clear rim around the design as close as you can - it is exactly that rim which shows as a glossy outline once dry. With large nose paintings this has the greatest effect.
• Cut with sharp scissors or a fresh scalpel on a glass support. A blunt edge presses the film in and tears it.
• With designs of a complicated outline do not trim the film into every detail but leave a thin even rim around it. An irregularly cut edge looks worse than a straight one.
• If the sheet holds designs close together, separate them one at a time, not in groups. Soaked neighboring decals will slide off the paper before you get to them.
• Seal the surface with gloss varnish and let it cure properly, and only then apply the decals.
• When you have finished and matted the model down, check it against the light at a sharp angle - an imperfectly bedded film edge is visible exactly like that.

The real subject

The Douglas C-47 was a twin-engine military transport aircraft derived from the DC-3 airliner. It was used for carrying cargo and paratroopers, for towing gliders and for evacuating the wounded, and served with many operators long after the war. The paintings on the noses of individual machines are among the striking features of the aviation culture of the day.
