The kit captures the Eclipse 400, a single-engine jet from the very light business jet category. It is an unusual subject: a single-engine jet with the engine mounted above the rear fuselage and with twin tail surfaces is markedly different in shape from anything else standing in an ordinary 1:72 display case. Amodel is a Ukrainian manufacturer with a very broad product line, in which, alongside Soviet and Russian subjects, you also find civil and Western types that other manufacturers never got round to.
The Eclipse 400 was created at an American maker of very light jets as a single-engine, lightened offshoot of its twin-engine family. The aim of the concept was a personal jet with low operating costs for owners who fly themselves. The type never reached large-scale production, which makes it all the more interesting an item for a collection of civil aviation.
On a civil aircraft the surface is what counts, because these are built mostly in gloss or satin finishes, which forgive no imperfections. So fill and sand the seams gradually through several grits, polish the surface and apply a primer before the final coat. Glue the clear cockpit parts with a glue intended for clear parts or with PVA glue, which will not fog them, and mask them before spraying. Finish the landing gear bays and the cabin interior before you close up the fuselage. Apply the decals over a gloss base and use a decal softener.
