This item is an accessory from the manufacturer Brengun, not a model of an aircraft. It contains a vacuum-formed cockpit canopy for the aerobatic aircraft Extra 300 in 1:72 scale. Vacuum forming gives the part a thickness that cannot be reached by injection molding, so the glazing comes close to the real ratio between the thickness of the glass and its edges. With an aerobatic aircraft, where the cockpit is large, prominent and almost without framing, this difference shows especially strongly.
The Extra 300 is a single-engine aerobatic special of German design, which came about at the end of the 1980s and became one of the most widespread machines of competition aerobatics and of air shows alike. The design proceeds from a light and very stiff airframe that will take high load factors, and from a powerful engine with a three-blade propeller. Aircraft of this family usually carry striking color schemes of sponsors and teams, so they are rewarding for a modeler even without weathering. The cockpit with its large, slightly bulged canopy is among their characteristic elements.
Cut the transparent part out with a margin and sand the outline down gradually on fine abrasive paper laid on a flat board, checking the fit often. Because the cockpit is large, watch above all the symmetry of the two sides, as every departure is visible on a finished model. Do not sand the inner side; rather go over it with clear coat, so that it stays transparent. Finish and paint the interior before fitting the canopy. Glue with glazing adhesive that leaves no veil as it cures. Spray the frames only after masking; with this type there are few of them, so it pays to draw them precisely.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and is not a standalone model. It is intended for modifying a matching kit in 1:72 scale.
