The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, on injection-molded sprues, with instructions and a decal sheet. The number of parts, the number of decal schemes and the extent of the stores included are given in the enclosed instructions; check the contents of the package against them before building.
The F-35 Lightning II is a single-engine fifth-generation combat aircraft with an emphasis on reduced radar reflectivity, integrated sensors and internal weapons bays. The A version is the variant with conventional takeoff and landing from a hard runway, that is the most widespread form of the whole family. It is characterized by the faceted outlines of the leading edges, internal weapons bays and a one-piece canopy. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force took the A version into service as a replacement for older types, and the 302nd Squadron is among the units that changed to it. The unit's markings show on the aircraft above all as codes on the vertical tail and the squadron badge.
The model has smooth surfaces with fine engraving, so it pays to spend time sanding the seams on the fuselage and the leading edges; every imperfection shows on a uniform gray finish. Use thin cement for plastic applied by capillary action to the joint. Apply a primer before painting, which at the same time reveals any remaining marks. The base shade is best sprayed with an airbrush in several thin coats, keeping any modulation very subtle; contrasting panel work would look unrealistic on this type. Prepare gloss varnish under the decals and, once it has dried, move on to a matte or semi-gloss coat. Paint the cockpit and the gear bays before the fuselage is closed.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
