Hawker Hurricane Mk.I painting masks (fabric wing, scheme A, 1:72, AML)

Self-adhesive painting masks from the Czech manufacturer AML for a model of the early Hawker Hurricane Mk.I with the fabric-covered wing in 1:72 scale. The masks define the dividing lines of the upper-surface camouflage scheme A exactly, so the painting goes quickly and with symmetrical transitions.

The real subject

The Hawker Hurricane Mk.I was, together with the Spitfire, the key fighter of the RAF during the Battle of Britain. The earliest machines had a fabric-covered wing, which the later production examples replaced with an all-metal one. Scheme A is one of the two mirror-image standard camouflage schemes of the RAF.

Use

• Stick the masks onto the dried base coat and press the edges down carefully against paint creeping underneath.
• Spray the contrasting shade with an airbrush coat by coat; take the mask off while the finish is still fresh.
• For softer transitions the edge of the mask can be lifted slightly and lightly oversprayed.
