About product

Fouga CM.170 Magister, resin IMI 50 kg bombs in 1:72 scale

This is a resin detail set from the brand CMK intended for plastic models of the Fouga CM.170 Magister trainer aircraft in Israeli service. The contents are castings of aerial bombs of Israeli manufacture in the 50 kg weight class, with which the stores stations of a finished model are completed. The set is therefore not an aircraft kit but an accessory used together with the basic kit. Judge the exact number of castings and the extent of the package by what the manufacturer gives on the packaging.

The real subject

The Fouga CM.170 Magister is a French two-seat jet trainer aircraft, easily recognized by its butterfly tail surfaces. The Israeli Air Force operated it in large numbers as a basic jet trainer and some of the machines were equipped to carry light underwing armament. Bombs weighing around 50 kilograms are among the typical armament of light trainer and liaison aircraft of this category; they are short bodies with pronounced stabilizing fins, which on a small model reliably catch the eye.

Building and painting tips

Wash the castings first in lukewarm soapy water: this removes the mold release residue, on which the paint would not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a sharp knife, and never break them away; resin is brittle and splits easily. Sand the cut surfaces down and protect your airways while sanding. Resin is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), and ordinary plastic glue has no effect on it. Apply a thin coat of primer before painting, otherwise the paint rubs off the smooth surface. Paint the bombs and bring them out separately, and attach them to the model only right at the end, once the varnish has dried.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Israeli Fouga Magister in 1:72 scale
  • Those who want to complete a model with underwing armament instead of empty racks
  • Builders with experience of resin parts and cyanoacrylate glue
  • Collectors of Israeli aviation equipment

The set is an accessory for a plastic kit. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. It is a resin detail set with underwing armament with which you will complete a model that is already built. The basic kit has to be bought separately.

With cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Ordinary plastic glue does not bite into resin and the joint does not hold.

Yes. Wash them in lukewarm soapy water because of the mold release residue and apply a primer. Without that the paint rubs off smooth resin.

The number of castings may differ between individual packages, and the extent of the package is apparent from what the manufacturer gives on the packaging.
