This is not a model of an aircraft or a kit. It is a replacement detail for 1:72 scale: according to the name the package contains two pieces of the Marlin aviation machine gun in the late form, cast in resin. Weapons molded in a kit's tooling tend to be softly shaped and often have a solid barrel and a simplified mounting; a resin casting offers crisper edges and more legible shapes at the very place the eye goes to first when looking a finished model over.
The Marlin was an American aviation machine gun of .30 caliber that came about by reworking the older Colt design: the swinging lever beneath the barrel gave way to a straight-line gas piston, thanks to which the weapon could be housed in the cramped space ahead of the pilot and synchronized with the revolutions of the propeller. It served as a fixed weapon on American aircraft at the end of the First World War and, in the interwar period, as training armament too. The manufacturer uses the designation of the late type to set it apart from the early form of the same range.
First wash the resin in lukewarm water with detergent — the remains of the mold release agent would stop the paint from adhering. Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw, never break them off. Sanding is done wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; classic cement for plastic does not work on resin. Start the painting with a dark base, then a thin layer of a steel shade, and finally a dry brush or a graphite lead on the edges; a dark wash will then bring out the engraving, the holes and the gaps.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin parts to be finished. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
