The EXPERT form is the highest of the grades of extent offered for this subject. The set holds a self-adhesive masking film with precisely cut shapes that are applied to the parts of the model before spraying. It is neither a kit nor decals, but an accessory used when painting.

When the highest extent makes sense

The widest extent suits you when you want to spray most of the color transitions for real rather than cover them. In 1:72 scale that shows especially clearly: a decal laid over an engraved line or a rivet is visible, while a sprayed surface is not. The set at the same time saves the most time, because you do not have to cut the small shapes out yourself.

Rules worth keeping to

• Before applying a mask, let the base color cure for at least a day, not a few hours.
• Always try a cut mask dry first, so that you know exactly where it belongs.
• On very thin strips it helps to press them down with the rounded end of tweezers rather than with a fingernail.
• Spray square to the surface, in thin coats and from the edge of the mask inwards.
• Once it is off, check the edge against a side light and knock any burrs back with a polishing stick.
