QMT 1:72 McDonnell RF-4B/F-4C/F-4E Phantom wheel bay paint masks is a masking set for painting the wheel bays of Phantom models in the RF-4B, F-4C and F-4E versions in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The package contains self-adhesive masks cut to the outline of the wheel bays of a model in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit and it is not a set of parts, but an aid to painting. According to the name it is intended for the RF-4B, F-4C and F-4E versions, that is, for the reconnaissance variant and two fighter variants of the Phantom.
A mask holds best on a smooth, even surface. On a coarsely sprayed base, or on a layer with a noticeable grain, the edge of the mask lies imperfectly and the paint gets under it even when it is pressed down carefully. So it pays to spray the interior of the bay smoothly and with thinned paint, or to polish the area lightly before masking. On models finished to a gloss a smooth base is a condition for the final appearance as well.
The RF-4B was the reconnaissance version operated by the US Marine Corps, on which the forward fuselage carried reconnaissance equipment instead of the radar and the armament. The F-4C was an early machine of the US Air Force and the F-4E a later variant with an internal cannon. All of them come from the same twin-engine basis with a cranked wing.
Keep to the order primer, interior of the bay, drying, mask, outer finish. Press the edge of the mask down around the whole perimeter and spray in thin coats. Lift the mask off once the paint has set, slowly and at an angle to the surface. Check the shades of the bays in the instructions to the kit.
This is an accessory to a kit. The model itself, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
