A decal sheet for a model of the Soviet Polikarpov I-16 fighter in 1:72 scale. The subject points to the period name for Soviet airmen, Stalin's Falcons.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet single-seat fighter of the 1930s and one of the first production low-wing monoplanes with retractable landing gear. It has an unmistakable silhouette: a short, barrel-shaped fuselage, a radial engine in a wide cowling and a cockpit set well back. The nickname Rata was given to it by the opposing side in the Spanish Civil War and it holds in modeling literature to this day. The term Stalin's Falcons is a period name for Soviet airmen, not a type or a version of the aircraft.
The decal set is listed for 1:72 scale and for the I-16 type. The list of the particular machines, their emblems, numbers and lettering is given by the manufacturer in the instructions supplied with the sheet. A small scale means small subjects, which are handled with tweezers.
Trim the subject as closely as you can and soak it in lukewarm water until it starts to release from the backing. Coat the surface with gloss varnish beforehand, otherwise air is trapped under the decal and a pale frame stays around the subject. Nudge the decal into place with a soft brush, push the water out with a cloth from the center toward the edges and let it dry thoroughly. With subjects this small it pays to work one piece at a time and always wait for the previous one to dry.
This is a decal sheet on its own for building a model. The paints, the varnishes and the glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
